Summer for a day

Had to make the most of the sunshine yesterday so I made my way down to the Serpentine Gallery to check out the Richard Prince exhibition and the Frank Gehry Pavilion, both of which I found underwhelming. Last year's pavilion by Olafur Eliasson and Kjetil Thorsen was so much more fun. Still, I got to enjoy the simple pleasure of lying under a tree and starting a new book before I cycled home. I was also happy by the fact that I finally got a shot of one of my favourite shop fronts in town.
Don't cha just love that Art Deco style?

Taking it easy

I had all the intentions of going out, but it would have involved a bike ride and I wasn't taking my chances, so I spent the day watching the Olympics. Oh to be a gymnast... I know that the training is torturous (and that I'm about 25 years too late in starting) but I'd love to be that strong and have complete and utter control over every muscle in my body. Much easier to enjoy watching it from the comfort of the sofa whilst snacking on my favourite fruits instead. Oh, and watching dressage was pretty surreal... Sure, it's impressive, but my question is: why?

In two halves

Ever have those days where you feel split? Like your brain isn't working as it should? I'm feeling a bit out of focus at the moment and I count my blessings that I haven't broken anything (crockery, glasses, bones). I hope it passes soon, it's a bit scary being me right now :0)

Grafik

The past couple of days in graphics. I feel like I've been neglecting the graphic designer in me for quite some time now. I think I need to get back into it... pronto.

Some graphic flickr favourites:

Question to fellow bloggers that use blogspot... Have you got weird little symbols (a question mark inside a diamond shape) popping up in your texts? I've noticed I've got quite a few in my older posts. Just wondered if it's a general problem or if it's just mine that's playing up. Thanks!

In the morning

Had a visitor in the garden yesterday morning. Unfortunately he/she was camera-shy so I didn't get a picture, but as I was having breakfast a squirrel scurried across the decking and climbed into one of the flower pots, only to get out his secret stash of blackberries. Our neighbour has a blackberry bush that has fed birds and squirrels for the past few weeks and this little fellow moved between different flower pots picking up his stored loot. Having my own wildlife show (OK, no lions as of yet) in the garden makes for an entertaining morning indeed...

Great looking blog I stumbled across yesterday: PICTURE SHOP
Go check it out!

Certainly a reading pleasure

Got this magazine a few days ago, finally an interiors magazine with homes where it actually looks like someone lives there! I've been collecting interior magazines for years and recently I've become really annoyed by the content. The homes are too polished as well as soulless and the people who live there are obviously seriously rich. I hate how they make me think "Oh I wish we had a few hundred thousand pounds at our disposal so we could do this, this and this" when what we have is more than fine. So I salute this new magazine where a bit of clutter is left in the corner, and where the pages don't leave you wanting the unattainable.

080808

Eight images from the eighth of the eighth of eighth. I got a hand-delivered postcard from a friend whom I haven't heard from in ages, so lovely to get first thing in the morning. Made me realise how rare handwritten postcards and letters are these days. Spent most of the day watching the opening ceremony from the Beijing Olympics, which was incredible, but after a couple of hours I felt dizzy so I sat myself in front of the piano for the day's practice and immediately felt better. How was your eighth?

West End East End

Hopped on Margot yesterday and cycled into to town where I had a look around the Photographer's Gallery. It was full of people being naughty and taking pictures (you're not allowed to) so I joined in too. I then continued eastwards to meet up with my sis where we both fitted in ridiculously well with our short haircuts. I even got snapped in the street by a Japanese fashion magazine, that's how "Brick Lane" I looked. Teehee.

It had to be done

I couldn't stand the curls anymore and as I was forever wearing my hair up there really was no point in having it long. I went back to my regular hairdresser and he gave me a cute asymmetric style (the longer bit is hiding behind the camera) and not once during the haircut did I feel nervous. I just knew I was ready to be a short-haired girl again. Hooray!

Mood enhancers

Monday was all about cleaning the house which was annoying as I was in a grumpy-old-lady-mood. It wasn't until the hubby switched on Guitar Hero late in the afternoon that I felt the mood lift. We haven't played it for ages, but we still rocked. He also made me laugh by hijacking one of my pictures (see pic 2) and the treats continued with a lemongrass-scented (and clean!) home, a delicious curry and a crappy action movie on the telly. By the end of the day it was as if the grumpy old lady never popped by.
