A different kind of eye candy

One of the many joys of traveling for me are the unexpected visual treasures that grab my attention. Here's some sights from the past few days...

Greetings from the Dolomites

bottom pic by the hubby

Somebody pinch me! It doesn't feel real walking or cycling around in this postcard-perfect place; everywhere you look there's a view to take your breath away (even out of our bathroom window!). Almost every muscle in my body aches from all the walking but it's worth it. It's so much fun whatever the weather, we've had hailstorms, thunderstorms, heavy rain and blazing sunshine, all equally wonderful with the mountains as a backdrop. I luv it.

P.S. Thanks all you lovely people for your sweet comments on the previous post :)

12

July 14th 2006, our wedding day, pic by Z.

Today me and the hubby are 12! What can I say, it's been the best 12 years of my life, I wouldn't be the person I am today without that lovely man by my side. Thank you for the love, patience and all the laughter over the years. I won't write anymore as it will just turn into one big cheese-fest and we don't want that now do we!

We're off to Italy for our anniversary holiday, and then I continue on to Sweden from there so it might be a bit quiet here for a week or two. But who knows, I might not be able to resist a few posts whilst traveling... Have a great couple of weeks everyone!

Mirror mirror everywhere

Don't you just love unexpected gifts? The hubby brought this home the other day and what a great tribute to the impending death of the polaroid it is too! You can take it off the stand and hang it on the wall and it goes without saying that it would look rather good hung next to a bunch of polaroids...
Happy weekend y'all!

6 things I like today

1. Meeting up with my sis for a spot of pre-holiday shopping for both of us.
2. Having sushi for lunch at Kulu Kulu.
3. Ordering the exact same drinks as the people behind us in the queue who pushed past us and took our drinks. What they didn't realise was that they had ordered large ones and we mediums so we kept quiet and walked away with theirs feeling smug. Karma indeed.
4. Riding Margot in the sunshine.
5. The sun making up for yesterday's washout.
6. Coming home to find the hubby happily crafting away (he's making a paper AK-47, boys eh?!!).

I was tagged by Sandra (cheers!). I tag: esti, alice, yasu and fliss.

Green day

It rained all day yesterday, they said a month's rain fell in one day (in other words: a miserable day). However, I noticed a lot of the colour green in the building where I have my piano lessons. The sight of an abandoned paddle pool in the stairwell made me smile. Somehow judging by the weather I dare say it will continue to sit there and collect more dust for a very long time.

Must do's

We wandered around the West End running errands yesterday. A jacket had to be returned, some lunch with delicious strawberry and kiwi juice had to be consumed and someone's hair had to be cut. I went in to a new salon on impulse and I was hoping I would come out with a wacky haircut, but the stylist gave me a pretty and sensible hairstyle instead. It won't look like this once I've washed my hair though as I have curly hair (which I hate) but I'm sure it'll be much better than the mop I've had for the past 18 months (I was growing out a bob). Anyway, enough about my silly hair! We also got a map and a guide book for our upcoming holiday, we're off to the Dolomites in Italy for some fresh mountain air. Anyone been? Any suggestions or tips?

Bacon can keep you warm

Isn't this just the funniest scarf you've ever seen? My hubby bought it in Magma last week and I love the attention to detail in the way it's been packaged. Luckily it feels nothing like bacon around your neck (can't say I've tried it but I can imagine). I can't wait to see him wear it come winter... and maybe I can find a matching fried egg beret.

Sundae Sunday

Here's what to do on a rainy Sunday afternoon that's a guaranteed hit with both young and old: go to an ice-cream parlour. That's what we did at Fortnum & Mason's where there's endless sundae and ice-cream concoctions to choose from. I had one called "Lazy Sundae Afternoon" which also happened to be the largest sundae at our table. And I scoffed it all... heehee.

Scanning the past

In the days before digital I was a film and polaroid (well Fuji Instax to be precise) junkie. I swore I'd never go digital. When APS (remember that) came along I scoffed at people getting them. But now that I've been shooting digital for three years I can see a flaw with my film shooting days, completely self-inflicted. I did not date a single film. I have no idea from what year my past adventures in film are from. I can guess by using diaries but I don't know where they all are. I think these are from 1998. Such a long long time ago. As you can see Little Mo was there already. We took silly pictures then too and I remember being so chuffed of having caught Little Mo mid-yawn. Me and the hubby also used to make each other Valentine's cards (a tradition we have to start up again), the last picture was my last second effort that year. I now have about 14 000 digital images and hardly any of them printed. There's that self-inflicted flaw again. Ten years from now I might not be able to look through pictures from now. I think I better get printing pronto!

Have a great weekend!

Shopper's delight

Met up with the hubby for some lunch at Mildred's and then had a look round the shops. It such a privilege to be able to wander around town on a weekday away from the crowds. After years of going "Do you remember Barbapapa?" to friends and them looking at me nonplussed it's great to see them popping up in the "cool" shops now. The last picture shows our combined loot. I got some piano music books and I had a slow go at "Strangers in the night" when we got back. So excited!!

The new hobby

I realised recently that it'd be too sad to live my life without trying to learn how to play an instrument, especially when I love music as much as I do. I've been listening to 30's and 40's jazz for years and now that a piano has found it's way into our house the dream of playing a Fats Waller song is hopefully within reach. I know that it will take years and years of dedication but I'm so up for the challenge. My first lesson went very well (my teacher happens to be Swedish - see, it's just meant to be!) and I've sat and done my homework for the day and I'm craving more! I'm off to get sheet music books tomorrow and if I'm not careful I might come back with bossa nova, bluegrass and blues books, racing ahead of myself...

This is the song I hope to be able to play a few months/years from now.
Aim for the stars, right?

One fine day

Now that's what I'm talking about! Finally a chance to go and check out the local pool. It's huge. It's cold. But I love it. As it was a weekday it wasn't crazy busy and come hot summer evenings (if there are any to come) I shall be found there doing laps with a little smile on my face.

Nice prints to buy from Kemistry Gallery, check out all the artists work on the menu to the left.
I particularly like this one.
