A second visit

After our Tate Modern visit, me and D walked along the river and went to see the Andreas Gursky exhibition at the Hayward Gallery. And this time there was no emergency call from Oomoo's school like the last time I was there - phew! In fact, as we went in around 2pm, the gallery was quite empty, so we could really take our time looking, whereas a couple of weeks ago we had to queue to get in. It's quite something to see such huge prints, and it does beg the question whether they are more interesting just because they're big. Would his Photoshop wizardry still impress in more regular-sized prints? I personally preferred his earlier work, where it felt like you were looking at something real, although I guess it might not have been! My favourite picture in the whole exhibition was a print of grey carpet, blown up huge (of course). It really appealed to my former graphic designer self (I mean carpets are pretty amazing grids, hehe), as well it turning the mundane, that you wouldn't even register in real life, into something worth capturing and elevating it into art. Now that's what I call magic.

A group of people making a nice shape innit

I don't know about you, but with the passing of the spring equinox this week, as well as the clocks going forward today, I finally feel like I'm coming out of my yearly hibernation. I remember MAV writing a while back about how she sees the winter months as the time to slow down, and not fight the need to rest, retreat and not push against what your body is telling you need to do. For her, the New Year starts at the spring equinox, and this year I've followed her way of thinking. And you know what? I feel so much better for it. I realise this is something that probably affects me more as I'm not working, whereas when I was in full time employment, I didn't have the time nor the luxury to tune in to the changing of the seasons. I'm looking forward to feeling more energetic, and not so sluggish and sloth-like. Do you feel the same?

Anyway, earlier this week, with more of a spring in my step, I met up with my old workmate D, and went to Tate Modern to see the Modigliani exhibition before it ends. It was very busy, and at one point I realised that we were amongst the youngest there, which as two middle aged women was a funny concept. The exhibition itself was good; lots of great use of colour, and his sculptures were amazing, and even though it's a bit safe to keep putting up exhibitions that will be hugely popular, I'm so grateful to be able to see so much great and famous art with my own eyes. All those great artists are great and famous for a reason.

Let's party like it's 2008!

Guys - My Funny Eye turns 10 years old today! What a milestone! Time for lots of exclamation marks - yeaaaaaahhh!!! Wow, I can't quite believe it... That went so fast, but then also not. Remember 2008? Before smart phones took over and effed up our lives (insert winking emoticon here)? Anyway, enough bitching, because this is a happy occasion! Thank you so much for following my pictorial stories here for the past decade; I've had so much fun doing it, and I'm so glad I've come back to this space whole heartedly. Sometimes you just can't beat "old school", you know? Here's to another 10 years. Cheers peeps! xxx

Last week

Hey there! Last week left me with no time to sit down by the computer, so here's a very disjointed summary of what went on... I saw this nice 6 and nice colour palette in Covent Garden and had to snap it. Looooove that green.

I finally bagged myself a semla from Bageriet. I only managed to eat half of it, but it was still yumyumyummy.

They postponed the dress up day for World Book Day at Oomoo's school, as it was during the wintry spell, and finally had it last week. As usual Mr Famapa went above and beyond putting together O's outfit! He and a classmate went as Thomson & Thompson from Tintin.

I mean, check out that outfit! Oomoo looked so good in a three piece suit. By dinner time he transitioned seamlessly into a cowboy, by changing the outfit slightly.

On the Friday I headed to the Hayward Gallery to see the Andreas Gursky exhibition with friends, but I only managed to see two rooms before I got a call from Oomoo's school. He'd come down with some sort of tummy bug, so I had to go and pick him up early. I'll have to go back to the Hayward soon, as the exhibition looked really good.

We had a sunny morning the other day at breakfast (they've been very rare recently!), and I couldn't find a baseball cap or sunglasses for the little man, so he sat reading with his cowboy hat on to shield his eyes. Yeehaw!

A Sunday

Dropped Oomoo off at his cousins for a few hours yesterday, while me and Mr Famapa went into town to get ski/snowboarding gear. Not the most fun of things to do, but we started off with lunch at Frenchie, which is my new favourite restaurant. The food was trés delicieux!

On the way home we stopped by Fabrique so we could bring back cinnamon buns for everyone. I was hoping for a semla, but they've stopped making them. You snooze, you lose.

Every Sunday we go for dinner at my mother-in-law's, and after taking this picture I realised that I need to have more of a proper look amongst her books.

Just as we we're getting into the car to go back home I noticed how cool these branches looked all lit up.

And finally, messing about with the shutter speed on the drive home. I was obviously NOT driving. Hope your weekend was good too!

Chilled and chilling

I would have thought that by Buddy being a Maine Coon and all he wouldn't feel the cold, but this guy loooooves blankets, and will jump up and try and hog my hot water bottle whenever I use it.<3 p="">
