2017 catch up - part I

Happy New Year! Hope you had a good break, if you had one. I ended up catching Oomoo's cold in the end, but we were both well enough by Christmas - phew! I'm glad to be the other side of it now, and relieved that xmas is a whole year away - hehe.

So, last year was a bit quiet here on the old blog; it seems I can't be on Instagram and the blog at the same time, so adios Instagram, and hola again to this sweet little spot. And as it's January and winter and all that, I thought I'd fish out pics that I shot on my camera last year and never got round to blogging, and forget all the rain/wind/greyness outside right now. These are from early May, when my dear friend Z came and stayed with us for a few days. It's ALL about food and art when she comes here, so on day one we polished off Tate Modern and Somerset House and a lot of tasty food (no food shots - because they are bloody boring). In a later catch up post there'll be pics from when I went to stay with her in Amsterdam last September - aaaahh yeeeeaaaahh! Have a great weekend yo xx

  1. I will miss you on Instagram, but I'm sooo glad you will start posting here again. LOVE your funny eye, F! Oh yes! Lets hope 2018 will be the year of PERSONAL blogs. Would love to hear which ones are your current favorites. So many blogs have become big and business minded.

    1. Thank you Astrid! I've grown so tired of social media (somehow I don't count blogs as social media - do you?), and it makes so much more sense to blog, away from ads, algorithms and non chron orders... I don't have many favourite personal blogs as so few of the people who's blogs I used to read still post. Yours is a clear favourite, it's amazing that you have been so consistent through out the years (and such busy ones too!!)! I also enjoy Mieke Verbijlen on meikewillems, and Isabelle and Jenny on dosfamily, and even though it's not personal per se, A Cup of Jo is always interesting. All the other blogs I read are big interior blogs, which are good for keeping an eye on what's going on, but it gets a bit repetitive and boring. I wish more people will manage to put down their phones this year, pick up their cameras and spend some time (which we were all happy doing pre-IG!) putting together something that won't disappear in an algorithm that decides what you see. Please share your favourite blogs too, as I'd love to discover some new ones. Take care! xx

    2. I so agree! Although for me blogs count as social media... ;-) I just published a post on this - including a few of my favorite blogs. PS: Happy to hear you still like my little corner of the internet :-)

  2. Hellooo, Happy New Year dear F.!
Love the pics as always ;) Just wanted to add that, through your blog, you made me /want to/ discover many places in London, thank you for that!
Having no blog, IG - wich I keep restricted - is only a way to share my discoveries with the 10 friends who are following me hahaaa but now I am wondering if I could have something more consistent just like you & your blog, dunno? Anyways, you are inspiring many souls out there ;) Take care xx

    1. Hey Pekiye! I was wondering if this was from you :)
Thank you as always, and it makes me very happy to know that you find the blog inspiring, and that you want to explore more of London because of it! I think you should do whatever makes you happy, whether that means starting a blog or continuing on IG, or something else. I know that blogging for me gives me a bit of a creative purpose and structure, and if other people enjoy what I do it's a very happy by product! I never thought anyone would pay any attention to the blog when I started it nearly 10 (!) years ago, and looking through the old posts I'm always surprised by what people have written about the posts. Take care lady! xx

    2. Hi Fatima, thanks for taking the time to reply :)
Funny times, where sitting behind a computer & taking one's time is old-school, almost an act of resistance, I like that ;)
I am happy you're continuing your blog, I grew attached to it, it is a welcome break from work, like opening a window to let fresh air in. To be honest, I am too lazy to have a blog hahaa Take care lady, Pekiye

  4. I was just answering to your instagram post and then I decided to answer here. You will be missed there, but it's a real pleasure to read you again here, as I recently was thinking that I was missing your blog !
I've recently broke my phone and I was thinking about regaving life to my camera... I will try ! even though I will never be as good as you at blogging.

Have a good and inspiring year :)

    1. Hi Y, thank you for your lovely comment! It's so nice to hear that the blog has been missed, as it felt like everyone was just on instagram and not giving blogs any time or interest. In fact, it seems like a lot of us have been feeling the same thing for a while, and I personally felt that I was not willing to live my life through my phone anymore. Just sitting on a computer again feels really good in comparison, a bit more old-school, like listening to vinyl, or reading an actual real physical book again ( yes, I know how stupid that sounds, but I think you know what I mean!).

I think you breaking your phone might be the perfect time to pick your camera up again - see if it feels good. I know which one I prefer :) Happy creative new year to you too!
